Parliament Approves the Draft Law on Making Amendments to the Law of Georgia on Legal Aid

On December 21, the Parliament of Georgia approved the draft law on making amendments to the Law of Georgia on Legal Aid after the first hearing. After the draft law enters into force, Legal Aid Service will start providing free legal assistance to the victims of violence against women and domestic violence despite their financial situation. Moreover, the insolvent beneficiaries will be entitled to apply to the service of a public attorney in case of disputes regarding labor and immovable property. While discussing the draft law, the importance of the Service in the justice sector was underlined once again. The MPs noted that Legal Aid Service has a special support of the legislative body of the country and in the future, the Parliament will contribute into the enhancement of the Service.
