Preparatory Seminar on Refugee Law Issues

Today, the preparatory seminar was held on refugee law issues for lawyers and consultants of the LAS Tbilisi Bureau.

Aleksandre Svanidze, director of the UN Association of Georgia Refugee and Migration Program, introduced to the participants the refugee law issues that will be discussed in details at the training planned to be held on January 30. They touched upon the existing legislation on refugee issues and the main principles of its implementation.

From January 1, 2016, Legal Aid Service was charged to represent those foreigners in the court who have disputes with the Georgian government regarding granting asylum or the humanitarian status. Georgia undertook this commitment in the framework of the EU Visa Liberalization Action Plan.   

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees and the UN Association of Georgia support Legal Aid Service to carry out trainings for the lawyers on the refugee law issues.
