PR Campaign of Legal Aid Service Started

Today, the Parliament of Georgia, the EU ambassador Janos Herman, the chairwoman of Legal Issues Committee of the Parliament – Eka Beselia and other honored guests visited the LAS Imereti-Kutaisi Legal Aid Bureau. The free consultation number 150 000 has been rendered in this bureau recently. The beneficiary of this consultancy was the IDP from Abkhazia – Davit Janjghava who was able to receive compensation to purchase accommodation with effort of the LAS lawyers. The attorney Sophio Kubaneishvili introduced to the guests the sequence of the case and its details.

The director of Legal Aid Service, Meliton Benidze, expressed his gratitude towards guests and donors for their constant support and summed up 10-year work of the organization. He underlined that besides the consultation, free legal assistance was provided for 100 000 beneficiaries and 90% of the cases belong to criminal law. The number of acquitted cases has increased by 25-30%. Up to 40 000 legal documents were drafted.

The media campaign, aiming at raising legal awareness, launched on December 1, with the financial support of the EU. The purpose of the campaign is to inform the society about the LAS services which are free from charge for the insolvent people who are in need of the legal assistance. The Service has 12 bureaus and 7 consultation centers across the country
